Angel Assist Service came about when my elderly parents were considering a move to a retirement village; I lived in the North Island, they were in the South. Yes there was family in the vicinity, but they all had busy lives as well.

My Mum and Dad were reluctant to move for several reasons, but I vividly recall my Dad’s biggest concern was how long it would take to pack up the his work shed and the family home they had lived in for over 60 years. It was daunting for them both.

Around the same time here in Franklin we had two large retirement villages making plans to build retirement communities. It got me thinking about all those seniors embarking on a similar move to my parents and how would they cope.

With no local services being offered at that time, I decided I wanted to make that move easier for them. Not only did I want to help alleviate the concerns of those embarking on the move, but also their families who, through no fault of their own are unable to assist.

From personal experience I know families just want to ensure their parents are treated with respect and dignity, aren’t taken advantage of, and that their move is as stress free and relaxed as possible. This is also the goal of Angel Assist Service and the cornerstone of our commitment to all our clients:

SHOPPING ASSISTANCE:

We have a client who has Alzheimer’s and, for many reasons, is no longer able to shop alone. We take her to the shops, help her choose and fit appropriate clothes, as well as purchase special occasion gifts. It's also important we ensure she is being charged and pays the correct amount.

GRAVE CARE:

Our client hadn’t visited his parent’s grave for a number of years. The grass had taken over the plot, making it impossible for this 80+ year old gentleman to clear it away himself. Angel Assist went with him to the cemetery, he sat in a fold-out chair relaxed whilst we took care of the unruly grass, did a general tidy up and placed flowers.
